Oh wow! Look at what director Danny Boyle has done for the new horror movie “28 Years Later”. He took a shot using 20 iPhones at once! Shooting a movie on an iPhone is not new in Hollywood, but a rig of 20 phones? This is the first time it’s happened! The movie is set to release on June 20.
Old list, new technique
Boyle shot the original 2002 movie “28 Days Later” on a digital camcorder. Back then, home videos were shot with similar cameras. Now he chose an iPhone to rekindle the same feeling. He made this decision with cameraman Anthony Dodd Mantle.

Magical rig of 20 phones
Last year, it was thought that the shooting was done only on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But in fact, the movie mixed drones, normal cameras and iPhones. 8, 10 or 20 phones were mounted together in special rigs. Boyle says, “There is a shot of 20 phones in the second part of the film. You will know it immediately when you see it!”

More fun for less
This 20-phone rig is “poor man’s bullet time”, says Boyle. This allowed him to shoot violent scenes in a new way. “You get 180-degree vision. You can choose any angle in editing. You can create effects by stopping time or moving it forward and backward!”
Anyone can come on the screen!
And one more fun thing! The movie is shot in an ultra-wide 2.76:1 screen ratio. This is as wide as 70mm film. What does this mean? Infected monsters can jump out of any corner of the screen! You’ll have to keep your eyes peeled.
Did you know this?
- Boyle’s experiment is to celebrate digital heritage.
- The feeling of home video is about to be revived.
- Low budget, high innovation — New message to Hollywood!
