The super adorable Hallmark movie My Sweet Austrian Holiday wasn’t even filmed in Austria! Wild, right? They tricked us all and shot it in Hungary and Canada instead. Let’s spill the tea on where this cute romance came to life and how it still feels so European!
The Movie’s Story in a Nutshell
My Sweet Austrian Holiday is part of Hallmark’s Love on the Danube series. It’s got Will Kemp and Brittany Bristow as the stars total heartthrobs! Brittany plays Charlotte, this American girl who’s a chocolatier.
She moves to Vienna to take over her grandparents’ chocolate shop. She’s on a mission to make it awesome again and win Chocolatier of the Year.
Then she meets Henry (Will Kemp), and sparks fly. It’s all chocolate and love—what’s not to like?
Where Was My Sweet Austrian Holiday Filmed?
So, here’s the big question: where was My Sweet Austrian Holiday filmed? Not in Austria, that’s for sure! They picked two cool spots: Ottawa, Canada, and Budapest, Hungary. Check this out:

Ottawa, Canada
First stop: Ottawa! It’s Canada’s capital, and it’s so pretty with all its trees and stuff. They filmed some indoor scenes here, like the parts set in Cincinnati.
The crew went hardcore sometimes working until 4 a.m.! My friend Sarah stayed up that late once for a school project and said it was brutal. Imagine doing that for a movie! It paid off, though, ‘cause the scenes look amazing.

Budapest, Hungary
Then they jetted off to Budapest, Hungary, and OMG, this place is the real star! It’s got these old, fancy buildings that scream Vienna vibes.
They filmed a ton near the Danube River it’s so romantic! There’s this street called Zrinyi Street where Charlotte and Henry wander around.
Budapest was basically the perfect fake Vienna. I’d totally go there just to pretend I’m in the movie!

A Tiny Bit of Vienna
Okay, they didn’t film in Vienna, but they sneaked in some shots of it! You’ll see St. Stephen’s Cathedral pop up on screen.
It’s this huge, gorgeous church in real Vienna. They just used it to trick us into feeling the Austrian mood. Sneaky, but smart!
When Did They Film It?
They shot My Sweet Austrian Holiday in June 2024. Started in Ottawa, then hopped over to Budapest.
Summer filming sounds so fun like a big adventure! I bet they ate tons of ice cream between takes to cool off.
The movie’s dropping on October 31, 2024, on Hallmark—just in time for Halloween snuggles!
Meet the Awesome Stars
Will Kemp and Brittany Bristow are the leads, and they’re the best! Will’s been in a bunch of Hallmark movies, and he’s a dancer too. Brittany’s a Hallmark queen always so sweet on screen.
They even practiced dance moves with this guy Jean-Marc Généreux before filming. There’s a scene where they dance, and it’s so smooth.
I tried dancing like that once at a school party total fail, but they nailed it!
Behind-the-Scenes Scoop
Filming was no joke. Those late nights in Ottawa? Intense! But they had fun too. In Budapest, they explored and ate yummy Hungarian food like goulash kinda like a spicy stew.
My cousin tried it once and said it’s the bomb! Since the movie’s all about chocolate, I bet they munched on some sweet treats too. Maybe even sneaked some from Charlotte’s fake shop!
Why You’ve Gotta Watch This Movie
If you’re obsessed with Hallmark movies like me, My Sweet Austrian Holiday is a must. It’s got romance, chocolate, and places that look like a fairy tale.
Plus, it’s in the Love on the Danube series, so it’s extra special. I’m counting down to October 31, 2024, ‘cause it’s gonna be the coziest night ever. Popcorn and hot cocoa, here I come!
So, yeah, My Sweet Austrian Holiday was filmed in Hungary and Canada—not Austria! But with Budapest’s charm and those Vienna shots, it totally feels Austrian.
The director, Leif Bristow, worked some magic to pull it off. If you’re into cute love stories with a European twist, you need this movie in your life. Who’s watching with me?
